The Royal Institution was founded in March 1799 with the aim of introducing new technologies and teaching science to the general public. Science and its applications have an enormous impact on all our lives, but in order to maximise the potential of science for the benefit of social wellbeing, cultural enrichment and economic prosperity, there is a need to create a two-way debate between science and society, relating science to people’s everyday lives.
The Royal Institution
Building on our heritage to create opportunities for everyone to discover, discuss and critically examine science and how it shapes the world around us.
